Nancy Rutledge (1901-1976) was the author of ten works of crime fiction between 1944 and 1960 under her own name, two of them published only in England. She also had one mystery novel published as by Leigh Bryson, a Handi-Book paperback original in 1947. Rutledge was popular enough in the 1950s and 60s to have eight mystery novels serialized in the Saturday Evening Post, and one that appeared complete in one 1960 issue of Redbook.

Nancy Rutledge is an excellent author who should be better known. She wrote at least two additional books in this genre, Murder on the Mountain, in 1957 (possibly only published in the U.K.) and Tropic Holiday (serialized in the Saturday Evening Post in 1958-59, and possibly never published in book format). Blood on the Cat has much humor and atmosphere, and Murder in Disguise (AKA Wanted for Murder) and The Frightened Murderer have truly haunting qualities. Murder for Millions is also known as Emily Will Know. It is unclear to me which two were only published in the U.K., according to Mr. Kelly. However, he says she wrote ten books under her own name, but lists 12. I have been able to find Escape into Danger only in a U.K. edition, Death Stalks the Bride and Alibi for Murder only in their Saturday Evening Post incarnations , and Forgotten World only as published in Redbook.
